This page has a few of my upcoming and recent presentations I’d like to highlight, as well as some times I’ve been interviewed on various topics. For a full list of presentations, see my CV.
- The Digital Worlds Workshop which I co-created during the pandemic lockdown has been a great success and the next annual meeting is coming soon! Check out the Workshop’s website for other cool things they’re doing, and consider presenting at the next one!
- I gave a talk for the Culinary Mind Center for the Philosophy of Food. It was entitled “Good Food for Good People” and was about why the US, despite having very little social welfare, has a large number of food-only aid programs and what that says about food and our society.
- I gave two talks at the 2nd US Precision Livestock Farming Conference at the University of Tennessee. One was called “A Framework for Transparency in Precision Livestock Farming” which I co-authored with Dr. Kevin Elliott. It looked at the importance of and difficulty in achieving transparency with emerging technology around food.
The other talk I gave was entitled “The Shape of Welfare: Using Precision Livestock Farming to Promote Value Pluralism in Animal Welfare” and looks at the radically incompatible visions of animal welfare different people have, and how Precision Livestock Farming technologies can help ameliorate some of those disagreements.
- I was interviewed for “Just Sustainability”, a podcast on the intersection of sustainability, equity, and social justice. We talked about what sustainability is, and I argued for a definition I’ve published on, in which sustainability acknowledges the importance of people doing the work of sustaining. You can listen to it on any podcast app, or listen to part one here and part two here.
- I was interviewed for “Dare to Know!”, a podcast and YouTube channel devoted to philosophy. They did a series of interviews of well known philosophers of food (and me). We talked about a number of things, but focused on local food movements.
- I was interviewed for “Knowing Animals”, a podcast on animal studies. We talked about Precision Livestock Farming and the ways these emerging technologies affect our relationships with animals.
